CARG Collection Coordinator required

Mary Green, CARG board member writes: Job vacancy: Collection Coordinator. Duties are to organize volunteers to help collect walking fees every month and membership fees once a year and for all new members. Is responsible for a float for change with the volunteers and the therapists. Will check the therapist collection box for fees and coordinate with the treasurer the receipts and monies collected. Look after the red shirt and support shirt inventory. Look after the white hearts and distribution of said hearts. Other duties as assigned. Attend board meetings. Cardiac Education Classes for Fall 2013

CARG need volunteers

Mohindar Sachdev, Chair Nominations Committee, writes: CARG is a non-profit organization that provides facilities and assistance to people who are concerned with the health of their hearts. The facilities include exercise programs aimed at rehabilitating their cardiac systems, education on topical issues and fellowship with colleagues with similar concerns. The cost of providing the facilities and services by CARG is the lowest in Canada. A large number of volunteers spending countless hours in organizing the programs and making sure that they function properly achieve this. These volunteers are not paid any remuneration and, therefore, the administrative cost of the program is minimal.

The last fiscal year of CARG ended on August 31, 2013 and the Annual General Meeting will be held in late October or early November. At that meeting, a Board of Directors will be elected. It is likely that two or three members of the present Board of Directors will not be available for serving on the Board next year.

A Nominating Committee was formed at the Board of Directors meeting held on August 15, 2013; this Committee consists of Board Members Mohindar Sachdev (Chair), Blake Adamson, Mary Green and Jim McKay. The Committee is looking for volunteers who would be willing to serve on the Board in the next fiscal year. The responsibilities of these volunteers would include the following tasks:

Treasurer of CARG: The Treasurer would be expected to perform the following duties:

Keep all records of the incoming and outgoing funds of CARG including receiving all monies, issuing cheques for payment of expenditures and issuing receipts for all donations received;

Report the state of the Group's finances at the Board meetings that are usually held on the last Thursday of each month;

Prepare and submit Registered Charity Information Return to the Canada Revenue Agency;

Prepare a budget for presenting at the Annual General Meeting and present it to the Board for approval.

Other duties assigned by the President.

The Treasurer should be familiar with keeping accounts using the accounting software "Quick Books".

Member-at-Large (1) who would be responsible for the following tasks:

Receive the fees collected at the Field House each month and deposit them in the CARG Account at the Affinity Credit Union.

Record details of fees paid by individual members in a spreadsheet every month and reconcile the details with the collected monies.

Provide a copy-file of the month's collection on about the 15th day of each month for preparing the month-end consolidated statement for use during the following month's fee collection activity.

This member should be familiar with using software like the Microsoft Excel for keeping details of the fees paid by individual members.

Member-at-Large (2) who would be responsible for the following tasks:

Record details of fees paid by individual members in a spreadsheet every month and reconcile with the records kept by Member-at-Large (1).

Prepare a consolidated list showing the fees paid in the month and fees paid in advance for the following month.

Keep records of names and addresses of members of CARG.

Assign Membership Number to all new members.

Prepare month-end statement of fees collected during the month and prepaid fees for the upcoming month for use during the following month's fee collection activities.

Prepare an up-to-date member list for use during the following month's fee collection activities and keeping membership information.

This member should be familiar with using software like the Microsoft Excel for keeping details of the fees paid by individual members.

IEEE Honors CARG member Mohindar Sachdev

Mohindar Sachdev, Past President of CARG is delighted to share with CARG members gratifying news that he received the 2013 Charles Proteus Steinmetz Award on July 23, 2013 at the Annual General Meeting of the Power and Energy Society (PES) of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). On July 16, 2013 prior to the meeting, IEEE issued the following press release.

MOHINDAR S. SACHDEV, DRIVER OF STANDARDS FOR POWER SYSTEMS, TO RECEIVE 2013 IEEE CHARLES PROTEUS STEINMETZ AWARD

Efforts Have Helped Set the Standard for More Reliable and Secure Electric Power Systems

NEW YORK, N.Y. (16 July 2013) - Mohindar S. Sachdev, a power engineer whose passion for standards development made him a driving force in creating and revising guidelines for safer and reliable electric power systems, is being honored by IEEE with the 2013 IEEE Charles Proteus Steinmetz Award. IEEE is the world's largest technical professional association.
The award, sponsored by the IEEE Standards Association, recognizes Sachdev for contributions to and leadership in the development of guides, recommended practices and standards for power system protection. The award will be presented on 23 July 2013 at the IEEE Power and Energy Society General Meeting in Vancouver, B.C., Canada.
Through hands-on writing and key leadership, Sachdev became a cornerstone of the IEEE Power System Relay Committee's success in publishing important standards and guidelines impacting power system protection. As technology evolved, Sachdev played an important role in revising standards originally written for electromechanical and analog devices to reflect the role of digital technology in the automation, control and protection that has led to today's smart grids. His work focused on areas ranging from differential and polarized circuit testing to grounding of secondary circuits and protection of power transformers to protective relay applications for transmission lines.
Sachdev, a power engineer with more than 60 years of experience, is being recognized for the contributions to and leadership in the development of guides, recommended practices and standards for power system protection. Sachdev has published over 300 papers on power system analysis, control and protection.
An IEEE Life Fellow, Sachdev is Professor Emeritus with the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Saskatchewan, Saskatoon, Canada.

Maintenance of equipment at the Field House

Gary Flegel has requested assistance in helping to maintain the equipment in the exercise room at the Field House. Work will entail cleaning and doing small repairs on the equipment. Please contact a Board Member or Gary if you are interested

Ruth Redden writes: "Thank you to the people in the picture, who have faithfully provided social functions to our organization for many years and have earned their retirement from this division of CARG. Many of these people have been involved in some way or another with almost every social function that CARG has put on over the years it has been in operation. As a result of the retirement of this committee effective December 31, 2012, we are now in need of a new Social Convenor or Co-Convenors. The duties include co-ordinating any social events such as special occasion breakfasts, luncheons, Christmas Party, or any other social events that may be happening. Please see any CARG Executive member or Blake Adamson (Liaison for the Social Committee) for more information"
