"Grammy Award-winning South African activist/singer Miriam Makeba died on Monday. She was 76. Makeba, affectionately known as "Mama Africa," collapsed from a heart attack during a performance in Italy, reports the Associated Press. Makeba was famous for such hits as "Pata Pata," "The Click Song" and "Malaika." She performed with musical pioneers Nina Simone , Dizzy Gillespie , Hugh Masekela , Harry Belafonte and Paul Simon, and sang for world leaders such as John F. Kennedy and Nelson Mandela. Makeba is survived by two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. A funeral will be held in South Africa, but details have not yet been announced" - Detroit News
